Position Title: Aquatics and Safety Director Key Responsibilities, Safety, and Risk Management: Enforce water safety policies and emergency procedures across all aquatics areas. Inspect pools, docks, boats, and equipment regularly, addressing or reporting issues immediately. Lead emergency drills to ensure staff readiness for rescues and severe weather situations. Maintain rescue equipment, first aid kits, and safety signage in proper condition and easily accessible. Document and follow up on all incidents, accidents, and near misses. Aquatics Programs: Direct daily aquatics activities including recreational swim, instructional swim, boating, and aquapark use. Ensure instructional swim is well-organized, follows the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program, and camper progress is tracked accurately. Work with the leadership team to implement exceptional aquatics programming that caters to all skill levels, including advanced swimmers. Maintain a safe and organized pool deck and waterfront, keeping areas clean and free of hazards. Staff Training and Supervision: Manage daily lifeguard schedules to guarantee complete coverage. Lead in-service training sessions to maintain high safety standards and readiness. Support staff by offering guidance and encouragement, helping them strengthen their skills in safety, instruction, and camper engagement. Serve as a working manager by actively covering shifts and maintaining a consistent presence on the pool deck and waterfront, with the expectation of being directly involved in daily aquatics operations. Adjust staffing plans in response to weather changes, program needs, or other unforeseen circumstances. Facilities and Equipment Report equipment and facility issues in a timely manner. Oversee the cleanliness and upkeep of all aquatics areas. Monitor inventory of equipment and supplies, submitting requests for replacements or repairs as needed. Provide support to general camp operations as scheduling requires. Collaboration and Communication Keep camp leadership informed on aquatics operations, staff performance, and program effectiveness. Coordinate with other program leaders to ensure aquatics integrates seamlessly into the overall camp schedule. Qualifications: Previous experience in aquatics programming and lifeguard management. Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Experience training, supervising, and supporting staff teams. Ability to stay calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications required. Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification required.
