Hse Incident Investigator
Hutton Safety Group
**About the Role**
We’re hiring a Calgary-based **Incident Investigator** to join our consulting team. If you light up when you hear “root cause analysis,” this is for you.
At Hutton Safety Group, we act as the safety department for companies that don’t have one. When something goes wrong, our clients call us and we help them figure out what happened, why it happened, and how to make sure it never happens again.
- *90% of investigations are done remotely** - document reviews, interviews, scene analysis from photos and reports. But when the situation calls for it, you’ll be expected to **drop what you’re doing and head to site**. That means short-notice travel (within Alberta, BC or SK) to respond to serious or complex events. If you’re someone who can recalibrate fast and doesn’t need every hour planned out in advance, you’ll thrive in this role.
- *What You’ll Do**
- Lead incident investigations from start to finish
- Review reports, interview workers, assess scene evidence (on-site or remote)
- Use SCAT, fishbone, and similar cause analysis methods
- Write reports that are clear, credible, and useful. No fluff, no filler
- Recommend corrective actions that matter and follow up on implementation
- Present findings to clients and support their internal safety conversations
- Manage multiple active investigations with professionalism and urgency
- *Note**: This role also includes rotating responsibility for our **emergency/incident response phone line**, which means responding quickly when a client calls in a new incident. That includes after-hours and weekends, on rotation with other team members.
- *What You Bring**
- 3+ years of dedicated experience in incident investigation
- Strong grasp of SCAT methodology or equivalent root cause tools
- Excellent writing and communication skills, your reports are sharp and thoughtful
- Ability to stay calm, curious, and focused in high-stakes situations
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel on short notice (10% of role)
- Bonus: A recognized safety credential is an asset but experience and sound judgement matter more.
- *This Role Is For You If**:
- You **genuinely love incident investigation** - the puzzles, the people, the process
- You don’t want to do “a bit of everything” in safety, you want to **specialize**:
- You don’t shy away from hard conversations or messy scenes
- You take pride in helping companies improve without blame or buzzwords
- You can shift gears quickly when priorities change and still deliver top-quality work
- *Why Join Hutton Safety Group?**
- Calgary-based team, with clients across Canada and the US
- A no-BS environment where safety is taken seriously, not just performed
- High autonomy, high trust, high expectations
- *Our Core Values: The Foundation of Hutton Safety Group**
At Hutton Safety Group, our core values shape everything we do - from how we serve our clients to how we support one another as a team.

If these values resonate with you, and you’re excited to be part of a dynamic, forward-thinking team, we’d love for you to apply
- *How to Apply**
Submit your resume directly through Indeed.
- Want to stand out?_ Add a short note or cover letter telling us why incident investigation is your thing - and share the toughest file you’ve ever worked on, plus what it taught you.
We thank all applicants for their interest, but only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
Pay: $75,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
- *Benefits**:
- Casual dress
- Company events
- Dental care
- Disability insurance
- Extended health care
- Life insurance
- Mileage reimbursement
- On-site parking
- Paid time off
