Job Summary of Safety Director
You will spearhead the implementation of prevention-focused HSE and security programs at the operating Sysco (OpCo) level. Your role will involve developing and executing strategies to support Sysco’s overall HSE objectives, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering a culture of safety and crisis preparedness.
Job Duties and Responsibilities of Safety Director:
- Develop and execute OpCo-specific HSE strategies in alignment with corporate goals.
- Collaborate with operational management to establish effective HSE plans to reduce injuries, accidents, and incidents.
- Communicate HSE strategy and objectives to senior leadership and support their implementation.
- Design and implement metrics to track progress and drive accountability for HSE performance.
- Conduct training programs to transfer HSE knowledge and core competencies to management and associates.
- Lead incident investigation processes, identify root causes, and implement corrective action plans.
- Interface with regulatory bodies such as OSHA, DOT, EPA, and state / local regulators.
- Monitor and communicate regulatory changes to OpCo management.
- Oversee the completion of HSE audits to ensure compliance with Sysco policies and procedures.
- Drive a zero-incident HSE culture throughout the Sysco and promote employee engagement in HSE initiatives.
- Perform management functions including staff selection, development, and performance reviews.
Qualifications and Experience of Safety Director
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certifications with relevant experience.
- 5-7 years of hands-on environmental and safety experience in warehousing / distribution, manufacturing, or transportation.
- Certification in safety (CSP) preferred, along with other pertinent safety certifications or designations.
- Strong background in safety with demonstrated results in driving safety initiatives.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management, supervision, and employees.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software, and willingness to learn Sysco technology.
