SHE Role Description
The SHE Manager requires strong leadership and engagement skills, a natural influencer who can win hearts and minds with an infectious energy to improve and succeed.
As a member of the Plant Leadership Team, you will be considered the functional expert in all things SHE related and have the primary objective to create, promote, and maintain a strong SHE culture.
To achieve this, you will organize, deliver, and monitor a suite of leading activities considered necessary to achieve year-on-year safety and behavioral performance improvements.
These activities are all directed toward the goal of managing and overseeing the growth of the safety- culture inherent within our G Street Plant with the ultimate objective of allowing them to make the safest choices during the performance of every task. The SHE Manager reports to the Plant Manager with a dotted line of reporting to the Regional SHE team.
Educational and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in industrial safety, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or Engineering required. 5 or more years’ experience with safety or health systems in a chemical manufacturing and warehousing environment required. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
Good working knowledge of OSHA, strong demonstrated passion for safety. Experience with training and development initiatives in Health and safety. Must be able to carry out task-based risk assessments. Experience identifying safety training needs, leading safety training, and developing training initiatives. The ability to work with minimal supervision and a working knowledge of industrial and laboratory safety would be preferred.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains safety records.
- Further develop the site’s environmental management system (ISO14001).
- Identify and plan Emergency response plan.
- Provide risk assessment support as required.
- Ability to produce high-level reports and articulate the Senior Leadership Team.
- Chair of the Safety Champion meetings and development program (internally).
- Drive an Internal Audit Program, development, and management.
- Communicates and initiates improvements in safety based on trends and audit findings.
- Maintains incident report tracking.
- Provides support for the management of waste streams.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the SHE functional leader or Plant Manager.
- Loss analysis and TPM pillar support.
- Personal Safety - Maintains an appropriate PPE program which includes a scheme to define Divisional requirements and for the supply, maintenance, and replacement of such. Develop the Risk Assessments and Safety Instructions as required by the respective task or workplace.
- Reporting - Ensures reporting discipline by fully deploying the corporate Safety Management System to record vehicle accidents, injuries, safety observations, etc. and collects and collates secondary data required for monthly performance reporting. The data will be used to monitor, report, and communicate SHE performance to management.
- Training - Organizes and in some cases delivers Safety Trainings (incl. induction, on-boarding, basic safety, and leadership training). This may be through internal sessions or external providers depending on requirements but includes the maintenance of training records to ensure compliance.
- Incident Investigation – In accordance with Global standards, investigates most incidents to assess and discover the cause of the incident. Actively engages with first line managers to ensure mitigation procedures are implemented.
- Conduct emergency response drills for various scenarios (fire/spill) and drive closure of corrective actions as required.
Contacts and Relationships
Interfaces with other department personnel in the corporate office, administration, and plant locations, as necessary.
Requires excellent communication, interpersonal skills and interacts well with external customers, visitors, employees, and management in other departments
Working Conditions
This role is based within a busy Manufacturing environment.
Required Qualifications and Experience
The role requires at least 5 years’ experience in a similar chemical industry.
NEBOSH Diploma or Certificate working toward Diploma.
Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environmental legislation.
Strong IT and data analysis skills.
Self-motivation and the ability to self-supervise are essential.
Strong organizational skills with a willingness to learn and develop in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
Strong statistical understanding and problem-solving skills.
Experience in leading and managing Certification Programs.
Experience in SHE Audit Programs (Internal/External Auditor Training).
Fluent in English language.
Effective communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.
Experience dealing with time demands and working with incomplete information.
Can demonstrate leadership potential and coaching, training, and mentoring skills.
Ability to work and influence other groups in a matrix and multicultural environment.
Demonstrable ability to deliver results.
Previous experience or exposure to project and change management.
Compensation
$100-150K
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
