JK Environmental Services Inc. requires an experienced, knowledgeable, and motivated Health & Safety Officer

  • *Who We Are**

JK Environmental Services provides clients with peace of mind through the delivery of hazardous materials management and removal, and a range of other specialist environmental support services.

  • *Position Overview**

Reporting to the Human Resources Director, this role will work closely with managers and employees within the organization to ensure Health & Safety compliance. This includes ensuring processes, procedures and the overall company safety program is communicated and adhered to. This position may be required to enter confined spaces, climb ladders, and work in conditions that may be traced with asbestos, mold and smoke. The Health & Safety Officer will spend time on job sites (may be exposed to potentially dangerous situations), in the office and shop.

  • *Responsibilities**
  • Responsible for safety orientation, safety training, job site inspections and reporting.
  • Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulations and Code, and make recommendations for their implementation.
  • Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
  • Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by all JK Environmental Services employees and subcontractors.
  • Work closely with the HR Director, the General Manager and H&S Supervisor to plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs.
  • Provide advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues.
  • Write safety standards in compliance with industry standards and federal, provincial, and local regulations.
  • Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups, including evaluation and modification of programs to meet governmental and industry standards.
  • Work with the HR Director, GM and H&S Supervisor to review the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs.
  • Research occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the workplace.
  • Develop tracking and reporting procedures.
  • Lead and/or participate in teams with safety, management, and other team members.
  • Assisting and/or conducting the yearly COR audit.
  • Other duties as required.
  • *Qualifications**
  • NCSO or equivalent.
  • At least five years safety advisor/coordinator experience in the construction industry.
  • COR Internal Auditor
  • Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass criminal record check.
  • Comfortable entering asbestos containment. This includes wearing a respirator and showering out when leaving containment.
  • Comfortable doing a combination of administrative work and field work.
  • Additional Assets
  • Asbestos remediation would be a big asset.
  • Lead, mould, PCB, and remediation experience.
  • OHS post-secondary and/or CRSP designation.
  • Experience administering modified work and WCB paperwork.
  • H2S experience.
