Safety & Compliance Coordinator

We’re seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Safety & Compliance Coordinator to lead safety initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and support our transportation team.

The Safety & Compliance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the company’s truck drivers, shop and yard and office employees follow safety protocols.

This position requires a highly organized individual who is able to maintain a high level of safety, quality, and customer service.

Under direction of Management, effectively develops and implements programs, practices and procedures to reduce the frequency and severity of accidental loss in the areas of worker’s compensation, general and auto liability, and property; ensures the company’s compliance with federal and provincial regulations which are designed to protect the human, financial and physical assets of the company as well as the motoring public; creates a company-wide safety culture through safety training, risk assessments and behavior modification programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct driver orientation, re-training, and compliance checks
  • Conduct claims investigation and evaluates risk management claims information to identify significant hazards and loss trends; identifies and recommends preventive measures and corrective actions
  • Perform regular physical inspections on the company’s grounds, buildings, equipment and operations; identify hazards and incidents of regulatory non-compliance, and recommends corrective measures
  • Deliver training / re-training
  • Maintain driver files
  • Develop programs to ensure the companies compliance with federal, state and local safety-related regulations, in addition to other environmental health, safety, and loss prevention standards and guidelines
  • Attend safety courses and seminars to stay updated with new and changing legislation, rules and regulations
  • Conduct annual COR audits / action plans for Calgary using the AMTA audit tool
  • Manage online auditing systems (ISNet World, ComplyWorks etc.)
  • Interact on a daily and weekly basis on insurance claims with drivers and insurance personal
  • Customer Pre-Qualifications
  • Lead monthly safety meetings and respond to safety concerns
  • Monitor safety metrics and report to management
  • Address safety related calls from drivers or other Totran personal
  • Keep management aware of all safety concerns updating on a regular basis
  • All other duties requested by management

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a similar role with Transportation Safety experience
  • Knowledge of transportation safety regulations
  • Possess strong business acumen, and demonstrates the ability to create and execute strategic plans
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team player with excellent organizational skills, results oriented, ability to effectively influence, collaborate and lead others
  • Competent with Microsoft applications

Starting Salary is based on industry knowledge and experience
