Our client, a leading entity in the Aviation sector, is actively seeking a highly experienced Senior Aviation Safety and Compliance Manager to join their dedicated team. This pivotal role is based in Calgary, Alberta, and is crucial for ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, and regulatory compliance across all aviation operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety management systems (SMS), conducting risk assessments, and ensuring adherence to national and international aviation regulations. This position requires deep expertise in aviation safety protocols, a thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks such as Transport Canada's regulations, and strong leadership capabilities to foster a robust safety culture throughout the organization. The role involves a significant amount of on-site work to effectively manage and monitor safety procedures and engage with operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Safety Management System (SMS) in compliance with all applicable aviation regulations. Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement mitigation strategies. Investigate aviation incidents and accidents, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions. Develop and deliver safety training programs for all relevant personnel, promoting a strong safety culture. Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and international aviation safety regulations and standards. Liaise with regulatory bodies, such as Transport Canada, to ensure ongoing compliance and manage reporting requirements. Monitor industry safety trends and best practices, incorporating relevant improvements into the company's safety programs. Manage the safety reporting system and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Provide leadership and guidance to the safety and compliance team. Champion a proactive safety-first approach across all departments.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Aerospace Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in aviation safety management, regulatory compliance, or a related field, with a significant portion in operational aviation environments. In-depth knowledge of aviation safety management systems (SMS), risk management principles, and accident investigation techniques. Thorough understanding of Transport Canada aviation regulations and international aviation standards (e.g., ICAO). Proven experience in developing and implementing safety policies and procedures. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Certification as a Safety Management Professional or similar is highly desirable. Willingness to work on-site regularly in Calgary, Alberta.
