We are seeking an experienced Safety Director with a strong background in the gas utility industry to lead our organization’s safety programs, develop best‑in‑class safety practices, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations. This role is critical in promoting a proactive safety culture across all field and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s comprehensive safety management program in alignment with gas utility and pipeline industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT/PHMSA, API, NFPA, and local/state regulations.
- Conduct safety audits, field evaluations, incident investigations, and root‑cause analyses with corrective action plans.
- Lead company-wide initiatives to improve safety performance and drive a culture of hazard awareness.
- Manage and deliver training including OQ (Operator Qualification), emergency response, confined space, PPE, and gas‑utility‑specific programs.
- Partner with operations leadership to identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Maintain safety records, compliance documentation, and regulatory reporting.
- Oversee safety personnel including Safety Specialists, Trainers, and Field Safety Technicians.
- Serve as primary contact with regulatory agencies, auditors, and utility partners.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of safety leadership experience in the gas utility, pipeline, or energy distribution industry.
- Strong knowledge of pipeline safety regulations (49 CFR Parts 191 & 192) and utility construction practices.
- Demonstrated experience with incident investigations and corrective action development.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and training abilities.
- Proficiency with safety management systems and reporting tools.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel regularly to job sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or related field.
- Certifications such as CSP, CHST, CUSP, OSHA 500/501, or equivalent.
- Experience with damage prevention, OQ programs, and pipeline integrity requirements.
- Prior work with major gas utilities or pipeline operators.
