AirswiftHSE Representative – Contract
Our valued client in the environmental consulting and waste management space—supporting upstream oil and gas operations—is seeking an early‑career HSE professional (approximately 3–5 years of experience) who is looking to grow within a small, fast‑moving organization. This role begins as a contract engagement with the intention to transition into a permanent staff position based on performance and business needs.
Role Overview
The HSE Representative supports a strong culture of safety and environmental excellence across operations. This role ensures compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations and supports the implementation of internal policies, procedures, and best practices. The focus is on minimizing operational risk and preventing incidents through proactive planning, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation and regulations within the provinces where work is performed.
- Take all reasonable and appropriate measures to protect the health and safety of personnel and visitors at job sites and office locations.
- Promote and reinforce HSE awareness across all levels of the organization.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an incident reporting system that supports proactive reporting of hazards, near misses, and incidents.
- Respond promptly to health, safety, and environmental concerns raised by workers or supervisors.
- Coordinate and/or deliver safety training programs, including first aid, CPR, accident prevention, incident investigation, workplace inspections, and other HSE topics.
- Maintain COR, ISNetworld, and other industry or provincial certifications and compliance requirements.
- Maintain, review, and update the Safety Manual to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate safety records, logs, and documentation.
- Ensure knowledge and application of Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) regulations.
- Provide a visible safety presence at job sites and operational locations.
- Participate in preparing HSE‑related components for bid qualification and prequalification packages.
Experience & Qualifications
- Working toward or holding NCSO; strong knowledge of OHS regulations.
- CRSP or Occupational Health and Safety Certificate considered an asset.
- Post‑secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field is an asset.
- Standard First Aid; Advanced First Aid and CPR certifications are assets.
- 3–5 years of related HSE experience.
- Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental management systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of provincial OH&S, WCB, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEP), and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Dependable, adaptable, and able to work collaboratively with field and office personnel.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional working relationships.
- Proficiency with HSE‑related software and systems, including SiteDocs, ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, and Microsoft Office.
Skills, Competencies & Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s licence (non‑GDL) with clean abstract.
- Ability to travel to project sites within Alberta as required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
Working Conditions
- Primarily office‑based with periodic fieldwork at active project sites.
