Working in a dynamic, welcoming, and collaborative workplace, you'll be part of a team that contributes to a culture positively impacting the communities and customers we serve.

## Fire Life Safety Director Position

We're seeking a Fire Life Safety Director to oversee a commercial building located in Midtown Manhattan. This is a full-time position with overnight shifts running from 11:00pm to 7:00am, Thursday through Monday. The pay rate is $30 per hour.

## Your Mission

The primary mission of the Fire Life Safety Director is to protect life and property through the implementation of the building's fire safety plan. You'll oversee the Fire Command Station and supervise the fire brigade, floor wardens, deputy floor wardens, and building evacuation supervisors. During emergencies, you'll act as the liaison to the NYC Fire Department—a critical responsibility that requires professionalism, quick thinking, and strong communication.

## What You'll Do

Your day-to-day responsibilities include ensuring that all life safety systems and related equipment remain fully functional at all times. You'll also ensure that all floors maintain properly staffed fire safety teams, including Fire Wardens, Deputy Fire Wardens, and Building Evacuation Team members.

Conducting fire alarm drills is essential to your role. You'll maintain detailed written logs of critiques to identify potential or actual weaknesses in response time or life safety systems. This documentation helps strengthen our overall preparedness.

You'll provide clear direction, information, and assistance to client visitors, guests, vendors, and employees in a professional and courteous manner—both during regular operations and emergency situations. You'll also assist the building security staff in visually inspecting visitor, vendor, and employee access badges and identification cards to verify that authorized holders are presenting their own credentials and to prevent unauthorized access.

Maintaining surveillance and reporting any suspicious persons or packages is another key component of the role. If required, you'll perform CPR/AED and provide basic first aid.

## Physical and Mental Requirements

This role demands significant physical activity. You'll stand or walk constantly throughout your shift on various surfaces including tile, concrete, and carpet. You'll occasionally climb stairs, ramps, or ladders during your shift, bend or twist at your waist, knees, or neck to perform various duties, and occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds. You may need to run as required by emergency situations.

You'll make constant use of both hands and arms while reaching, handling, grasping, and fingering when using phones, notepads, writing reports, and completing other administrative tasks. Your eyes will be in constant use to observe, read, interact with the public and co-workers, and view security monitors—including maintaining hand/eye coordination.

You'll work in various environments, including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain, or heat. Most importantly, you'll maintain constant mental alertness and attention to detail while setting priorities and following up on assignments.

## What We're Looking For

Qualified candidates will have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and be at least 18 years of age. You must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional manner. You'll need to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.

You must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting and may be required to have computer skills. You'll need to read and understand all operating procedures and instructions.

Licensing requirements are subject to state and local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment. As a condition of employment, you must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug and alcohol test. As a condition of continued employment, you must maintain current active status of all required licenses at all times and carry your license while on duty.

## Essential Qualities

You must display exceptional customer service and communication skills and remain flexible to ever-changing environments, adapting well to different situations. Intermediate computer skills are necessary to utilize innovative, wireless technology at client-specific sites. You'll need to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standards and present a neat, professional appearance at all times.

Your ability to handle both common and crisis situations at the client site, calmly and efficiently, is crucial. You must be able to read, understand, and clearly speak English, and constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level) when communicating with the public and co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, and using phones. Finally, you must be able to handle the pressure of working with high-volume general public interaction, which may be constant or occasional depending on specific circumstances.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, ethnicity, age, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, genetic information, disability, protected veteran status, or relationship/association with a protected veteran, or any other basis or characteristic protected by law.
