Schedule: Monday - Friday (plus scheduled events, occasional evening and weekend, on-call emergencies)

Hours: Full-time, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Job Purpose: The Director of Campus Safety & Security provides strategic leadership for the safety, security, and emergency preparedness of St. Agnes Academy. This role oversees campus safety operation, crisis response planning, compliance with applicable regulations, risk mitigation, and coordination with local law enforcement and emergency services. The Director partners closely with the Head of School, Principal, Director of Facilities, leadership team, and Board to ensure that safety systems are proactive, well-communicated, and aligned with best practices. The Director leads with professionalism, discretion, and a strong understanding of adolescent school environments.

Faith, Community, and Dominican Charism

  • Ensure that the four pillars of a Dominican education (prayer, study, community, preaching) are developed and promoted among the school community.
  • Develop an active faith community and model Christian values.
  • Support prayer and spiritual formation within the student, faculty/staff, and parent communities.
  • Uphold and implement the Dominican charism and the Houston Dominican Sisters' congregational goals.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion by honoring the dignity of each member of the St. Agnes Academy community.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Safety Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Campus Safety & Emergency Management Plan
  • Conduct ongoing risk assessments of campus facilities and operations
  • Establish and maintain physical security protocols (access control, visitor management, surveillance, lockdown procedures)
  • Lead threat assessment protocols in collaboration with school leadership
  • Ensure compliance with state, local, and Archdiocesan safety requirements

Crisis Management & Emergency Preparedness

  • Serve as primary coordinator for crisis response and emergency preparedness
  • Co-chair the Campus Safety or Crisis Response Team
  • Develop and regularly update emergency response procedures
  • Conduct and evaluate drills (fire, lockdown, severe weather, evacuation)
  • Coordinate training for faculty, staff, and students
  • Coordinate with first responders and emergency agencies to facilitate emergency assistance and improve campus safety and security procedures

Operational Oversight

  • Supervise campus security personnel, including hiring and scheduling and coordination for special events
  • Oversee visitor management systems and campus access controls
  • Maintain surveillance systems and safety technology infrastructure
  • Coordinate with IT and Facilities to ensure that all systems are in order, including doors, locks, fencing and barriers, as well as alarms, PA, cameras, and warning systems
  • Monitor safety-related budgets and recommend improvements
  • Ensure campus lighting, signage, and safety infrastructure are maintained
  • Provide traffic and parking control, use of lots and scheduling
  • Oversee gatehouse function and implementation

Student & Community Safety Culture

  • Promote a culture of safety grounded in respect, responsibility, and dignity
  • Partner with Student Life and Community Culture to ensure policies are implemented consistently
  • Provide education to students and parents on safety awareness and prevention
  • Assist, as needed, in addressing issues such as harassment, bullying, or behavioral safety concerns from a preventative perspective

Policy Development & Compliance

  • Review and update campus safety policies annually
  • Ensure documentation of drills, incidents, and compliance measures
  • Monitor and maintain all safety/security-related licensing, permits, and inspections, working with local agencies
  • Support Safe Environment requirements and training compliance
  • Monitor best practices in independent school safety and Catholic school security standards

Board Leadership Reporting

  • Provide safety updates and risk assessments to the Head of School
  • Contribute to Board-level discussions on safety and infrastructure planning as requested
  • Sit on Risk Management Committee
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion in sensitive matters

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the mission of St. Agnes Academy
  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced training in security management, criminal justice, emergency management, or related field preferred
  • Experience in school safety, law enforcement, emergency management, or security leadership required
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis planning and emergency response coordination
  • Strong understanding of adolescent school environments preferred
  • Ability to lead with calm authority and sound judgment under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • CPR/AED certified
  • Completion of Safe Haven training
