Food Safety Leader

Location: Winnipeg Manitoba

Salary: $80,000 – $90,000 base + bonus

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Food Safety Leader to oversee and continuously improve our operations. This role is responsible for leading a unionized team, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and driving a strong food safety culture across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Periodically review all food safety and food defense procedures to ensure they remain current and effective
  • Lead and manage the Food Safety Team, ensuring processes are established, implemented, and maintained
  • Review and approve changes to procedures and work instructions
  • Promote awareness of customer and regulatory food safety requirements across the organization
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and review food safety programs
  • Ensure food safety hazards are identified, evaluated, and controlled across all processes
  • Evaluate supplier/vendor food safety systems and monitor ongoing performance
  • Review manufacturing changes to ensure food safety risks are mitigated
  • Oversee the internal food safety audit program, including auditor selection, audit execution, and corrective actions
  • Report on food safety performance, corrective actions, and improvements during Management Review meetings
  • Collect and analyze data to identify root causes of food safety issues and implement corrective actions
  • Lead plant audits, including internal, external, and regulatory inspections
  • Oversee sanitation, pest control, allergen, and microbiological programs
  • Ensure completion and effectiveness of food safety training for all plant personnel
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration to resolve food safety issues efficiently
  • Develop team capability to address daily food safety challenges and achieve performance goals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required) in Engineering, Science, Operations Management, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum 3+ years of supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized manufacturing or food production environment
  • Proven experience leading teams within a unionized environment
  • Strong leadership and team development skills
  • SAP experience is considered an asset
  • Excellent project management and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, unstructured environment and make timely decisions
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Demonstrated ability to drive results in a challenging, performance-driven environment
