Health, Safety, Environment Coordinator
Envent Engineering Ltd**Job Statement**
The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Coordinator is responsible for supporting and enhancing Envent’s health, safety, and environmental programs. This role involves coordinating safety training, conducting site inspections, managing safety documentation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The HSE Coordinator will collaborate with managers, supervisors, and employees to promote a safe and sustainable workplace, reduce risk, and drive a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
- *Essential Functions and Responsibilities**
- *Safety Program Management (COR & ISO14001)**:
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, standards, and company policies.
- Coordinate and facilitate safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
- Manage the organization's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring compliance with ISO requirements and facilitating audits.
- Responsible for maintaining ComplyWorks, ISNetworld and Avetta documentation management systems.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures according to Envent’s Business Process Operations System (BPOS).
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments of work sites and facilities.
- Identify safety hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Manage schedules for the maintenance and inspection of tools and equipment, ensuring that they are in safe and working condition and meet environmental standards.
- *Compliance and Reporting**:
- Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA, WHMIS, and environmental standards.
- Collaborate with the HR department to ensure all employees receive health, safety, and environmental training. Track and monitor employee certifications and training records to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, and training sessions.
- Conduct regular reviews of HSE documentation, including policies, procedures, and incident reports. Update documentation as needed to reflect changes in regulations or business processes.
- Prepare and submit safety reports to the Manager, HSE, and senior leadership.
- Update and maintain online HSE management systems, ensuring that all relevant documentation and procedures are readily accessible and up to date.
- Support incident investigations and contribute to root cause analyses.
- *Environmental Stewardship**:
- Implement sustainability initiatives and environmental compliance programs.
- Develop and conduct training programs on environmental stewardship standards and procedures for employees.
- Monitor waste management practices and contribute to reducing Envent’s environmental footprint.
- Ensure hazardous materials are handled, stored, and disposed of safely.
- Promote awareness of environmental initiatives throughout the organization.
- *Collaboration and Communication**:
- Act as a liaison between management and staff to promote safety awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Coordinate and lead the safety committee, facilitating discussions and initiatives aimed at improving workplace safety and environmental sustainability.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement new HSE programs and initiatives in response to evolving business processes and regulatory requirements.
- Provide support to teams during emergency drills and preparedness exercises.
- Communicate safety expectations and updates effectively across all levels of the organization.
- *Continuous Improvement**:
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to health, safety, and environmental practices.
- Analyze safety data to identify trends and develop proactive safety measures.
- Stay current with industry best practices and emerging safety regulations.
- *Qualifications**
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in a health, safety, or environmental role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Strong knowledge of COR & ISO14001 regulations, standards, and best practices preferred.
- Valid safety certifications (e.g., NCSO, CRSP) are considered an asset.
- COR Lead Auditor preferred.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, hazard identification, and risk management.
- MHSA Safety Basics training, Hazard Assessment training, and Safety Auditor training preferred.
- Experience with Complyworks, ISNetworld and Avetta documentation management systems.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
- *Working conditions**
- Primarily working in an office environment
- Working after hours and may be required occasionally.
- Travel to Envent’s US office may be required occasionally.
