Hse Manager
Iron Core Welding LtdWe are seeking a full-time Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Manager that will be based in the Iron Core office five days per week with site visits to perform inspections. The HSE Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. This role requires a proactive approach to incident prevention, injuries, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- *Key Responsibilities**:Health and Safety Compliance**:
- Ensure company Health and Safety Management System is compliant with Alberta OHS legislation.
- Investigate health-related concerns and order the suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety.
- Maintain accurate records for all health and safety documentation.
- *Hazardous Materials Management**:
- Maintain inventories of hazardous materials or hazardous wastes, using waste tracking systems to ensure materials are handled according to manufacturer's specifications and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Ensure proper storage and handling of hazardous materials.
- *Employee Training**:
- Provide new-employee health and safety orientations and develop materials for these presentations.
- Conduct or arrange safety training or education programs.
- Arrange third party training for workers at accredited providers (example, fall protection)
- Provide company-wide safety meetings which emphasize two-way communication and accountability.
- *Workplace Safety Evaluation**:
- Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
- Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, and first-aid supplies.
- Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
- Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.
- *Incident Investigation and Prevention**:
- Investigate incidents to identify causes or determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
- Analyze incident data to identify trends in injuries, illnesses, accidents, or other hazards.
- Report any medical incidents to WCB, or other authorities as required.
- *Emergency Response and Hygiene Programs**:
- Maintain or update emergency response plans or procedures.
- Develop or maintain hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, to ensure employee well-being.
- *COR Maintenance**:
- Maintain safety documentation for annual audit, whether internal or external.
- Arrange tri yearly external audit through the Alberta Construction Safety Association.
- Perform yearly internal audit of Health and Safety Management System in accordance with Alberta OHS legislation, and ACSA COR program standards.
- *Safety Platforms**:
- Maintain client specific safety platforms with acceptable grading to ensure site access.
- *Safety Compliance**:
- Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices of the Iron Core Health and Safety Management System.
- Participate in safety training sessions and stay updated on best practices in welding safety.
- Take every reasonable precaution to protect the health and safety of yourself, and any other workers.
- *Qualifications**:
- Experience in an NCSO role, preferably within the welding, fabrication, or related industrial sector.
- National Construction Safety Officer certification is required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Alberta OHS Act, Regulation, and Code, CSA Standards.
- Strong analytical skills to assess risk, analyze accident data, and develop effective prevention strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for conducting training sessions and communicating with employees at all levels.
- Proficiency in the use of HSE management software and systems.
- Class 5 driver's license with a clean abstract.
