Job Summary
Our Fort McMurray branch is currently seeking a Safety Advisor. Dedicated to supporting the broader national Levitt-Safety team (with a focus on Fort McMurray), this role is critical to ensuring that our team members work safely & that our safety program is integrated into our processes, and overall, that we promote and ensure a choose the safe way, always culture.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide advice, guidance, and support as an “ask people who know” resource to all site managers, supervisors
- Conduct and/or assist in safety site inspections and field observations
- Overall safety program management and administration
- Participate and assist the supervisors and manager in the investigation of incidents and near misses to determine root cause and corrective actions & follow up
- Work with teams to ensure JHAs, work instructions, site inspections, FLRAs, Toolbox talks, etc. are conducted/completed on required cadence.
- Act as a key resource and facilitator in preparing safe work practices and procedures; evaluate hazardous conditions and develop and support programs & procedures
- Ensure that customer safety obligations are being met
- Regularly review all legislation and applicable standards, to ensure compliance in each assigned province. Create and update policies based on changing legislation and customer needs
- Ensure that all required record keeping and reporting requirements are met
- Work closely with HR to ensure injured workers are offered modified duties and documentation has been completed, and continue to modify and follow up with employees.
- Conduct orientation for new hires in the region regarding H&S including support in the field; ensure all required documentation and training is completed accurately to support compliance requirements
- Organize and schedule required safety training
- Be the designated and qualified COR Auditor for Alberta (and other provinces as applicable)
- Work with the QA team to ensure that COR requirements are factored into process auditing
- Assist other branches/regions as required on the above
- Be an active member of the AB Regional Health & Safety Committee

- *Qualifications**:
- Professional safety designation such as NCSO, CRSP, or CHSC or willing to obtain
- Strong knowledge of provincial health and safety legislation
- At least 3 years’ previous experience working in a safety-first environment with safety-sensitive roles is required.
- Internal COR Auditor Certification for Alberta is a key asset
- Previous experience monitoring, implementing, and administrating Health & Safety policies and procedures in a similar role, an asset.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; able to work collaboratively and supportively to drive a safety-first culture among all levels of managers and employees
- Able to travel frequently to customer sites and branches across Canada.
- Technically savvy
- Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
- As this role will require onsite support, must be able to pass pre-employment and pre-access D&A screening and security screening as well as provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination
