Location
While our preference is for candidates based within daily commuting distance of a McElhanney office in our Northern and Interior BC region, you can be based at any of our offices across British Columbia or Alberta.
This role is predominately office-based making it ideal for those not looking to travel extensively for work. It does require periodic office and project site visits throughout the region from time to time.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Coach, support, and audit the effective implementation of McElhanney’s HSEMS across operations.
- Support McElhanney’s HSE Systems team in the consultation and development of key internal projects and the continuous improvement of our HSEMS.
- Develop Safe Work Methods in collaboration with subject matter experts and support the continual improvement of all elements within McElhanney’s HSEMS.
- Develop and deliver online training and education to employees.
- Provide support, coaching, and feedback to supervisors in the investigation of incidents, determining root causes, and the recommendation of corrective actions.
- Proactively identify non-compliance issues and general opportunities for improvement. Assist in the development of solutions to improve safety performance.
- Complete McElhanney’s Subcontractor HSE Prequalification Process as required for projects and support the development of Project Specific Safety Plans.
- Perform internal audits and provide recommendations and corrective actions to management.
- Conduct periodic worksite inspections at our offices and field project worksites to help verify the effective implementation of McElhanney’s HSE Management System (HSEMS) and provide continuous improvement opportunities for workers and the Branch.

What You’ll Bring
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an OHS role; strong technical knowledge of OHS hazards, regulations, and best practices related to construction or other high-risk industries.
- Experience supporting people and safe production in the field and PMs/managers in the office.
- Attention to detail, and an ability to work well in a team environment.
- Comfortable with AI (e.g. generative AI) and technology (e.g. using mobile applications and being proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
