  • * POSITION SUMMARY:
  • * The Manager of Health, Safety and Wellness is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and oversight of the municipality’s corporate occupational health, safety, and wellness programs. The position ensures compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario), Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and other applicable legislation. This role will take a corporate lead in promoting a culture of safety and psychological well-being, and oversee programs related to disability management, WSIB administration, employee wellness, and workplace mental health.

The Manager will provide strategic leadership to reduce workplace injuries, improve employee well-being, manage claims costs, and support safe and healthy workplaces across all municipal operations.

  • ** Develop and implement the municipality’s corporate health, safety and wellness strategy.
  • Lead initiatives that support a culture of safety, prevention, and psychological health.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Director of Human Resources, Senior Leadership Team, and department heads on workplace health and safety risks and compliance.
  • Establish corporate health, safety and wellness policies, procedures, and standards.
  • * Occupational Health and Safety
  • ** Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario), associated regulations, and associated municipal policies.
  • Oversee workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead corporate accident/incident investigation processes.
  • Provide oversight of Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSCs) across the organization.
  • Monitor safety performance metrics and report trends to senior leadership.
  • Provide direction, consultation and assistance in the interpretation and application of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, related legislation and regulations, and related corporate health and safety policies and procedures.## ##

  • ** Oversee workplace injury management and return-to-work programs in compliance with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.
  • Manage WSIB claims, appeals, and cost containment strategies.
  • Coordinate modified work programs and early and safe return-to-work plans.
  • Work closely with unions, supervisors, and healthcare providers to support recovery and accommodation.
  • Report, administer and monitor workplace injury and disease claims to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Maintain records of workplace accidents, injuries, diseases, investigations and inspections.
  • Monitor corporate/individual absenteeism and conduct time loss review studies. Administer the Corporate Attendance Support Program (ASP) and provides direction and support for managers/supervisors in dealing with attendance related issues.
  • Oversee the administration of Short - and Long - Term Disability claims management. Work directly with benefits provider to ensure proper claims adjudication. Where necessary, conduct Work Well audits and arrange for independent medical examinations to assess functional abilities, facilitate claims management and successful return to work.## ##
