The HSE Coordinator provides day‑to‑day health, safety, and environmental support for the Camrose facility, ensuring workers, contractors, and visitors operate in a safe and compliant environment. This role coordinates training, orientations, safety documentation, and administrative processes that are essential to maintaining regulatory compliance and supporting Perma‑Pipe’s HSE programs.

Working closely with the HSE Manager, the HSE Coordinator helps ensure consistent application of safety practices, assists with data collection for reporting, and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the company’s safety systems. The position plays a vital role in maintaining accurate records, supporting inspections and observations, and reinforcing safe work behaviors across shop, yard, and office operations.

The role is situated in Camrose, AB and is not a remote or hybrid position.

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Maintain awareness of Alberta Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) legislation and applicable regulations; recommend updates to ensure site compliance.
  • Administer HSE records management in accordance with legislated requirements and company standards.
  • Coordinate occupational health and safety testing in compliance with OHS regulations.
  • Support COR audit preparation, documentation, and compliance tracking.
  • Assist with reporting requirements for owner/client requests.
  • Support ongoing contractor management to ensure HSE compliance.
  • Oversee administration of the in-house safety training system.
  • Advise the HSE Manager on improvements to safety data tracking and reporting processes.

Inspections, Investigations & Risk Management

  • Support hazard assessments, task-specific risk evaluations, and job safety analyses (JSAs) for shop, maintenance, yard, and office operations.
  • Assist with administration of the work site inspection program.
  • Ensure corrective actions are documented, tracked, completed, and verified in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and administer the safety observation card program.
  • Assist in gathering and compiling safety performance data and metrics.
  • Act as site First Aid Attendant; respond to workplace injuries and coordinate medical follow-up when required.

Training, Culture & Program Development

  • Coordinate HSE orientations for new hires, contractors, and visitors.
  • Coordinate safety training for employees through internal or third-party providers.
  • Proactively notify managers of required training and upcoming certification expirations.
  • Provide on-the-floor coaching to reinforce safe work behaviors and consistent safety practices.
  • Support administration of office (staff) HSE programs.
  • Coordinate and administer safety meetings and associated documentation.
  • Order and manage safety equipment and supplies.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 1–3 years of experience in an HSE or safety support role.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta OHS processes and safety program administration.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond promptly to operational needs.
  • Comfortable working in active shop environments with noise, heat, moving equipment, and varying air quality conditions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and digital reporting systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing/industrial setting with exposure to noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and moving equipment.
  • Frequent interaction with employees, supervisors, contractors, and regulatory representatives.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor conditions when coordinating with yard personnel.
  • Demanding environment requires adherence to safety policies and procedures.

Education & Certifications

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related field preferred (or currently enrolled).
  • Safety designation or progression toward CRST (Canadian Registered Safety Technician) or National Health & Safety Administrator (NHSA) considered an asset.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR certification required (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
