Placements24We are recruiting a dedicated and experienced Lead Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Officer for our client's operations in Quebec City, Quebec, CA . This critical role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, developing and implementing robust EHS policies and procedures, and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of provincial and federal EHS legislation, including workplace safety standards, hazardous material handling, waste management, and emergency preparedness. You will conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions. This position involves developing and delivering EHS training programs to employees at all levels, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to perform their duties safely. You will also be responsible for maintaining EHS documentation, permits, and records, and coordinating with regulatory agencies during audits and inspections. The Lead EHS Officer will play an integral part in the continuous improvement of the company's EHS management system, striving to minimize risks and prevent accidents or environmental incidents. Collaboration with management, supervisors, and employees is key to fostering a proactive safety environment. Experience in developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs, including occupational health monitoring and industrial hygiene, is essential. Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs and policies. Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards. Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions. Develop and deliver EHS training to all employees, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, provincial, and local EHS regulations. Manage hazardous materials, waste disposal, and environmental protection initiatives. Develop and test emergency response plans and procedures. Maintain EHS documentation, permits, and records, and liaise with regulatory bodies. Promote a strong safety culture and encourage employee participation in EHS initiatives. Collaborate with management and staff to integrate EHS considerations into all business operations. Monitor workplace conditions for potential health hazards and recommend appropriate controls. Contribute to the continuous improvement of the EHS management system. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. 5-7 years of progressive experience in EHS management, preferably in an industrial setting. In-depth knowledge of Canadian EHS regulations and standards (e.g., WHMIS, TDG). Certification such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is highly preferred. Strong understanding of risk assessment, incident investigation, and safety management systems. Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to lead and influence others to adopt safety practices. Proficiency in EHS software and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to conduct physical site inspections and work closely with operational teams. Fluency in French and English is an asset.
