Senior Environmental Health & Safety Manager (Full-time)
Placements24Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to oversee and implement robust EHS programs for their facilities in New York City, New York, US . This critical role involves ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, fostering a strong safety culture, and minimizing environmental impact. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of EHS best practices, a proactive approach to risk management, and the ability to lead and influence teams. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring EHS policies and procedures across all operations.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive EHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure regulatory compliance and operational safety. Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections of facilities and operations to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to standards. Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective and preventative actions. Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees at all levels to promote a strong safety culture. Manage environmental permits, reporting, and compliance activities, including waste management and emissions control. Stay current with all applicable EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and ensure the organization remains compliant. Develop and implement emergency preparedness and response plans. Advise management on EHS risks and recommend strategies for mitigation. Oversee the management of hazardous materials and waste disposal processes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into all aspects of operations. Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organization. Manage EHS budget and resources effectively. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety management, preferably within a relevant industry. In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant EHS regulations. Proven experience in developing and implementing EHS management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001). Strong understanding of risk assessment and hazard control techniques. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels. Demonstrated experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis. Proficiency in EHS software and data management tools. Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Professional certifications such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent are highly desirable.
