Fire and Life Safety Director (FLSD) – T-89 Required

Overview

Practice of Peace Foundation is seeking a qualified Fire and Life Safety Director (FLSD) with a valid FDNY T-89 Certificate of Fitness to support fire and life safety compliance at our adult shelter facility in Jamaica, New York. This position is responsible for maintaining compliance with FDNY fire safety requirements, supporting emergency preparedness procedures, monitoring fire safety systems and related documentation, and coordinating with site leadership regarding inspections, drills, and corrective actions.

Duties

• Maintain Fire and Life Safety Director coverage in accordance with FDNY requirements.
• Support compliance with the Fire Safety and Evacuation Plan and related fire safety procedures.
• Coordinate with site leadership regarding fire drills, emergency readiness, inspections, and corrective action follow-up.
• Monitor fire safety documentation, logs, and related compliance records.
• Assist with inspection readiness and ensure required records are maintained and available.
• Communicate with management regarding fire and life safety issues, deficiencies, and recommended corrective actions.
• Help ensure the facility remains aligned with applicable FDNY fire and life safety requirements.

Requirements

• Valid FDNY T-89 Certificate of Fitness required.
• Prior experience as a Fire and Life Safety Director or in a comparable fire/life safety compliance role preferred.
• Strong knowledge of fire safety procedures, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to work on-site in Jamaica, New York.
• Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with shelter leadership, staff, and property ownership.
