Field Safety Advisor

The Field Safety Advisor will promote a strong health and safety culture at the worksite through the development and continual improvement of health, safety and environmental programs. You will collaborate and coach supervisors and employees to find the safest approach to worksite activities. You will work with employees, other business units and our clients to monitor, maintain and report on internal safety related processes and documentation. The Safety Advisor will promote a positive safety attitude and safe work practices at the worksite.

This position will report directly to the Corporate Safety Manager, and is to coordinate day-to-day activities with the onsite Project Superintendent or Project Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain health, safety and environmental policies/procedures onsite.
  • Encourage and educate employees on safety awareness, use and regulations.
  • Take responsibility for company health, safety, and environmental protection, as well as that of the general public, and visitors to the site(s).
  • Prepare and deliver safety talks and training at morning tailgates/safety meetings.
  • Conduct project-specific safety orientation with all workers and visitors.
  • Schedule weekly worksite visits
  • Conduct inspections of worksites, equipment, emergency equipment and personal protective equipment.
  • Perform incident investigations and assist in the completion of forms & corrective actions
  • Complete employee onboarding tasks.
  • Attend and participate in HSE meetings.
  • Track and maintain site specific key performance metrics (KPI).
  • Arrange for external training when required.
  • Participate and support the annual COR audit process.
  • Assist in the management of WCB claims, modified duties and return to work programs.
  • Monitor, track and record daily paperwork submittals.
  • Track and file employee training certifications.

Education and Experience

  • Must have experience in highway construction (minimum two years)
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation, OHS Certificate or OHS Diploma is considered an asset.
  • Ground Disturbance Level II
  • Current Intermediate First Aid
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE)
  • Experience conducting incident investigations

Pre-Employment Conditions

  • Class 5 Drivers, with a clear abstract history for travel between office and worksites. A company vehicle is available for use.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment / pre-access alcohol & drug testing. This includes legal, illegal drugs and medications.

Working Conditions

  • This is primarily a field-based position, with 80% field and 20% administrative.
  • Travel to various active work sites around Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan
  • Work sites are all outdoors, exposure to weather and noise possible
  • Must be able to navigate over uneven surfaces, climb stairs and other obstacles in active work site
  • Work “on call” as required to respond to incidents
  • Proper PPE required

Job Schedule

· Flexible work arrangement available. Typical schedule includes 21 days on, 4 days off

· 12 hour per day

· Schedule, hours, and days of work are subject to change to accommodate business needs
