Safety Health & Environmental Manager

About the position

The Safety, Health & Environmental (SH&E) Manager at Olympic Steel is responsible for overseeing the SH&E program at the Chambersburg, PA division. This role involves collaborating with the Leadership Team and the Regional SH&E Manager to implement the company's SH&E goals, ensuring compliance with regulations, leading accident investigations, and driving improvements in safety performance and culture.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the oversight of the SH&E program on site at the Chambersburg division.
• Work closely with the Leadership Team and Regional SH&E Manager to implement SH&E goals and objectives.
• Ensure compliance with Local, State & Federal regulations by collaborating with the General Manager.
• Lead accident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring completion of corrective actions.
• Track and monitor safety corrective actions and proactively drive actions to closure.
• Review and audit OSHA 300 log, OSHA 300A Form & OSHA 301 Forms.
• Advise on Workers' Compensation claims and activities, reviewing associated claim data as required.
• Perform or coordinate all industrial hygiene activities and employee medical surveillance for safety programs.
• Collaborate with leaders at other divisions to drive improvements in safety performance and culture.

Requirements

• Associates or Bachelor's degree in a safety-related field.
• 5-10+ years of related SH&E work experience with a focus in warehousing and manufacturing.
• Demonstrated ability in collecting and analyzing data; preparing reports; and training employees.
• Outstanding problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal).
• Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree and/or safety certifications preferred.
• Previous experience in a metal service center or steel industry preferred.
