Part-time Experienced Safety Representative - Construction Site
SercoPosition Description & Qualifications
As a Construction Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), you will play a crucial role in planning, organizing, and managing the site safety program, ensuring the safety of all personnel during construction and testing activities.
This role requires a commitment to a 60-hour work week, Monday to Saturday, with on-site work periods lasting 4-6 weeks, 3 to 4 times a year. Expect varied weather conditions, from sub-zero temperatures to 70 degrees.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with 29 CFR 1926.16 for the project.
- Be present at the site to oversee all major operations during shifts.
- Support the implementation of Serco's Safety and Health program.
- Assist with the project-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
- Maintain familiarity with EM 385-1-1 safety requirements and possess experience in hazard identification and compliance.
- Report to the Corporate Safety Manager, Sr. SSHO, or Program Manager, while maintaining accessible safety reference materials at the site.
- Conduct daily Safety and Health inspections according to EM 385-1-1 and investigate accidents and near misses, completing necessary reports.
- Track safety incidents in line with project and corporate requirements.
- Participate in pre-construction conferences and safety meetings as required.
- Create and deliver safety-related documentation such as daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Conduct ongoing evaluations of the APP to keep it current and specific to the site needs.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) requirements for all personnel, including subcontractors and visitors.
- Provide site safety orientation and training records for all personnel.
- Review and sign the mandatory ENG Form 6282 acknowledging your roles and responsibilities.
- Ensure proper safety briefings and personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance for visitors.
- Act as SSHO during periods when the Sr. SSHO is on leave or unavailable.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with EM 385-1-1 safety requirements and in hazard identification/compliance.
- At least 3 years of Project Management and Quality Control experience.
- Experience working at remote locations for USACE is a plus.
- Willingness to travel extensively, up to 75% of the year.
- Valid U.S. Passport required (expiration date should exceed 6 months).
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
