Position: Health and Safety Advisor
Department: Human Resources
Reports to: Director of Human Resources
Our Safety Advisor operates in a hands on role that owns the safety program in the workplace. By developing strong relationships with employees, building trust with our operating company leaders, and leading our teams in proactive safe work practices, this position contributes to bringing our people home safe every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Have a strong presence on our manufacturing shop floors as a trusted resource for employees
- Develop, implement, and review safety policies, procedures, and SJP’s
- Conduct regular site inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments
- Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions
- Manage the hazard incident and injury occurrences for minimal impact
- Coordinate and deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and training
- Liaise with vendors, suppliers, and external auditors
- Lead the Health and Safety Committee to be an effective body of support on the frontline
- Monitor OHS legislation and ensure organisational compliance
Key Requirements
· Strong working knowledge of provincial OH&S Acts
· Ability to understand legislative requirements vs practical application and operational realities
· Competency in conducting Hazard Assessments and SJP’s
· Experience in developing and maintaining safety programs such as Lockout/Tagout, PPE programs, Emergency Response Plans, Contractor Safety Programs
· Demonstrated understanding of safety management systems including COR certification
· Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or production environments
· Strong computer proficiency for reporting and program administration (Excel, Dashboards, safety software, etc)
