This role is for a Safety Manager to support the Transportation North Operating Group, located onsite at a client site in the New York, NY metro area. This position is designated as onsite, requiring presence five days a week in the office. Reporting directly to the Senior Safety Manager of the Transportation Northeast Region Operating Group, this role plays a critical part in integrating safety and health into the complete project lifecycle—from design phases through to jobsite management. The Safety Manager will be responsible for strategic planning, programmatic support, and overseeing the allocation of safety resources to multiple construction projects. Ensuring that projects meet safety, quality, budget, and timeline requirements is paramount in this role.

The successful candidate will be proactively involved in achieving operational efficiencies, anticipating safety-related issues, and fulfilling the support requirements of the operating group. A key aspect of this role involves close interaction with the group’s leadership to effectively implement the STV Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) program. The Safety Manager is also responsible for coordinating experienced safety resources to conduct regular site evaluations across multiple construction projects. These evaluations assess compliance with safety practices, identify hazardous conditions, and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.

In addition to hands-on project safety management, the Safety Manager will engage extensively with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and safety professionals. This includes overseeing compliance with safety standards, codes, and regulations, supporting proposals and contract safety reviews, and participating in pre-construction planning to meet safety requirements for scheduled work scopes. The role demands a strategic thinker capable of providing division-wide support in planning, program development, enforcement, safety staff resourcing, and budget management.

Other responsibilities encompass auditing and monitoring the STV HSE Management System, investigating safety incidents and injuries, and maintaining comprehensive records and reports related to safety events. Collaboration with project managers and engineers to develop practical safety and health procedures is also critical. The Safety Manager will conduct safety training as needed and ensure compliance with both company and client-specific training and safety requirements. This position includes attending contractors' pre-construction and project meetings to maintain alignment across all safety aspects. Travel within the region may be required to support multi-site projects.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and possesses professional safety certifications such as CHST, ASP, or similar. They bring extensive experience—7 to 10 years in the safety field, preferably within bridge, rail, or tunnel infrastructure projects. Experience in the Water Supply or Wastewater sector as an EH&S Inspector is also highly regarded. Candidates must have OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Training certification, with OSHA 500 Outreach Trainer certification preferred. Experience working with transit systems, subway rail systems, or regional railroads further strengthens candidacy.
