Position Overview

Travel: 50-75% Travel between Mid-Atlantic and Gulf Region.

The Director of Safety is the senior leader responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all safety, compliance, and risk‑management programs across Temco’s national operations. This role ensures that all delivery teams, contractors, warehouses, and fleet operations meet or exceed federal, state, and local safety standards. The Director of Safety drives a proactive safety culture, reduces incidents, and protects the company’s people, assets, and reputation.

Key Responsibilities Safety Leadership & Culture

  • Build and maintain a strong, proactive safety culture across all Temco locations.
  • Lead safety communication, training, and engagement initiatives for drivers, installers, warehouse teams, and leadership.
  • Serve as the company’s subject‑matter expert on transportation and workplace safety.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and state transportation regulations.
  • Oversee driver qualification files, drug/alcohol testing programs, and required safety documentation.
  • Maintain audit‑ready compliance across all terminals and fleet operations.

Training & Development

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for new hires and ongoing workforce development.
  • Implement defensive driving, load‑securement, equipment handling, and installation‑safety training.
  • Coach managers and supervisors on enforcing safety standards.

Incident & Risk Management

  • Lead investigations for accidents, injuries, property damage, and near‑miss events.
  • Identify root causes and implement corrective action plans.
  • Partner with insurance, legal, and HR teams to manage claims and reduce risk exposure.

Fleet & Operational Safety

  • Oversee vehicle inspection, maintenance, and compliance programs.
  • Ensure proper use of safety equipment, PPE, and installation tools.
  • Collaborate with operations leadership to identify and mitigate field‑level risks.

Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Track and analyze safety KPIs, trends, and compliance metrics.
  • Present safety performance to executive leadership.
  • Develop strategic initiatives to reduce incident rates and improve operational safety.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or last‑mile delivery safety leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA/OSHA regulations.
  • Experience managing multi‑site operations and large driver/contractor populations.
  • Proven ability to lead investigations, develop training, and implement safety programs.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Logistics, Business, or related is a plus.
  • CSP, CHST, or similar certifications are a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
