The Director of Safety ensures the development and implementation of safety programs, policies, training, and procedures that promote a robust and proactive safety culture and the maintenance of a healthy work environment. The position serves as an advisor in the development and execution of consistent safety and environmental management programs. Ensures the Company’s environmental health and safety programs and activities are in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads the development and implementation of a Behavior-Based Safety program that fosters a proactive safety culture and supports a zero-incident environment across the organization.
  • Serves as the Company’s Safety Officer and manages the Corporate Safety Program to ensure effective risk management, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Develops and implements innovative safety programs, processes, and improvement initiatives that strengthen hazard awareness, employee accountability, and incident prevention.
  • Conducts and oversees comprehensive risk assessments, including job hazard analyses, process risk evaluations, and facility safety reviews to proactively identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Leads incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring timely corrective and preventive actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
  • Develops and utilizes safety analytics, KPIs, and trend analysis to identify risks, monitor performance, and drive data-informed actions that reduce incidents and recordables.
  • Directs ergonomic assessments and workplace design improvements to reduce musculoskeletal injuries and improve employee safety and operational efficiency.
  • Oversees and delivers safety training programs for employees, supervisors, contractors, and leadership to strengthen safety awareness and compliance.
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA, FDA, cGMP, environmental, and other applicable health and safety regulations, including required reporting and documentation.
  • Leads internal safety audits and inspections, ensuring identified risks are addressed and corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Oversees workers’ compensation programs, injury management, and incident reporting, ensuring appropriate follow-up and communication with leadership and Human Resources.
  • Leads emergency preparedness and response programs, including crisis management coordination, emergency drills, and ensuring readiness of emergency response teams and systems.
  • Builds and develops a high-performing safety team, providing leadership, coaching, performance management, and professional development.
WHAT YOU NEED
  • Minimum 10 years of experience leading and developing EHS teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; CSP, CIH, or related professional certification preferred.
  • A minimum of ten years of safety and environmental experience in a manufacturing facility (or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Previous experience in cGMP Nutraceutical, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, or Food manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience in Behavior-Based Safety programs and proactive safety culture development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigation.
  • Experience implementing ergonomic programs and workplace design improvements.
  • Strong capability in safety analytics, trend analysis, and performance metrics development.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Comfortable managing and/or performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
  • Strong knowledge of computers and software required to accomplish the responsibilities of the position.
  • Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
