POSITION SUMMARY

Campus Safety Officers are responsible for helping ensure the

safety and security of Willamette University's students, employees,

visitors, and property during their assigned shifts. They deal with

all violations of law and campus policy in an appropriate and

equitable manner and positively engage with diverse individuals and

groups in support of an inclusive environment.

The Campus Safety Officer position reports to the Associate

Director of Campus Safety. This position is responsible for

responding to situations utilizing a set of well-defined policies,

procedures, and expectations. Must be able to perform duties with

independence. Provides direction and supervision to work-study

students but has no formal responsibility for supervision. Public

relations are an important part of this position. Requires strong

interpersonal and verbal communication skills to exchange

information with individuals both inside and outside the

University. Requires an understanding of a culturally diverse

community and the need to interact in a manner that fosters

positive relationships in respectful, equitable, and inclusive

ways.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Campus Safety Officers are responsible for helping ensure the

safety and security of Willamette University's students, employees,

visitors, and property during their assigned shifts.

  • Patrol university grounds and facilities to ensure a safe and

secure environment, including on foot and in vehicles, patrol

campus facilities, parking lots, grounds, and the interior of all

buildings on campus.

  • Monitor all activity and confront any suspicious behavior on

Campus.

  • Escort visitors and intruders off campus if

required.

  • Issue citations and warnings to violators.
  • Interview individuals involved in incidents, gather information

and write reports on crimes, violence, vandalism, fires, and other

illegal activities on campus. Give accounts of people involved, who

are affected, and what measures were taken to minimize or eliminate

the incidents.

  • Respond quickly to all calls to Campus Safety for assistance

and contact local Police, Fire, or Medical personnel when

necessary.

  • Provides medical care at the basic first aid/CPR/AED level as

provided by the American Red Cross or its equivalent. Coordinates

with medical responders when a higher level of care is

required.

  • Responds to notifications from the security and fire alarms

across campus that are monitored by campus Safety.

  • Contribute to the support and implementation of the University

Strategic Plan.

  • Adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Updates daily activity logs as needed and in a timely manner;

completes written incident and investigative reports in a timely,

clear, and well-written manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must meet minimum criteria for certification by the Board on

Public Safety Standards and Training, which requires candidates to

be 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and be free

from any felony criminal convictions.

  • Minimum of two years experience in a security position or two

years of college-level law enforcement or criminal justice courses

And/ Or any combination of education and experience that provides

the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the

position's essential functions.

  • Ability to operate a computer, with demonstrated skills in

Outlook, Word, Excel, and other security-related

programs.

  • Valid driver's license within 60 days of hire.
  • CPR/AED Certification or obtain within 90 days of

employment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary,

as well as the ability to actively communicate with various

constituents, including faculty, staff, administration, and the

general public.

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve

problems and initiate and implement projects

independently.

  • Ability to multi-task with accuracy and meet deadlines in a

fast-paced environment.

  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Customer service experience.
  • Experience working in a security-related field.
  • Experience working at a college or university.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Typical schedule requires 40 hour per work with possible

required overtime as needed

  • Requires standing for long periods of time and taking many

stairs/runs as part of your regular patrol duties.

  • Requires to kneel/crawl, twist, lift, carry, push, and pull

objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.

Salary: $23.93/ hour
