The Technical Operations team at United Airlines plays a critical role in ensuring the airline's fleet is maintained at the highest standards. This team comprises skilled aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities professionals, and supply chain experts. Together, they work tirelessly to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the airline’s aircraft. The role of the Technical Operations Safety and Compliance Manager is an essential leadership position within this team. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Technical Operations Line Maintenance Safety and Compliance, this position is responsible for overseeing safety training, managing regulatory requirements, and ensuring compliance with aviation safety standards across line and base maintenance operations.
The Safety and Compliance Manager serves as the subject matter expert within United's Technical Operations, focusing on continuous safety surveillance through regular site audits and visits. They manage safety and compliance issues across the airline’s designated region, including secondary maintenance stations, proactively addressing potential risks and integrating these insights with quality assurance and control programs. A crucial aspect of this role is championing safety initiatives aimed at reducing injuries, operational impacts, aircraft damage, and costs. The manager actively promotes a positive safety culture and leads investigations into non-compliance and injury or damage incidents using root cause analysis methods to develop corrective actions.
Additionally, the position involves ensuring strict adherence to safety policies and implementing Safety Management System (SMS) principles to identify and mitigate hazards within Technical Operations. The manager leads risk reviews, partners with compliance groups and safety committees, and promotes lessons learned across various divisions. They also spearhead systemwide safety initiatives and serve as a master trainer in safety subjects, facilitating continuous safety improvements across the organization.
Successful candidates will bring extensive experience in aircraft maintenance safety, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of OSHA, FAA, and related regulatory standards. This full-time role offers a competitive base salary range from $99,750 to $129,924, with eligibility for bonuses and long-term incentives, alongside a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, paid leave, and flight privileges. - bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 4+ years leadership or supervisory experience
- 5+ years in aircraft maintenance or related safety roles
- knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, FAA regulations
- proficiency in root cause analysis
- OSHA 30 certification
