Summary
The Safety Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, compliant, and sustainable working environment within our manufacturing plant in Kharagpur, West Bengal. Reporting to the EHS Manager, this position is responsible for ensuring full adherence to statutory regulations, ISO 45001 standards, and internal EHS policies across all plant operations. The ideal candidate will proactively identify hazards, lead safety initiatives, drive incident prevention, and foster a strong safety culture. This role is essential to achieving zero-incident operations, protecting personnel, and supporting the company’s reputation as a leader in the metals and fuel industry.
Responsibilities
- Ensure strict compliance with the Factory Act, Fire Safety Regulations, and other relevant statutory safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate safety records, statutory registers, and compliance documentation.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments using HIRA and JSA methodologies.
- Support and uphold ISO 45001 and company EHS management system standards.
- Serve as the primary liaison with government authorities during inspections and audits.
- Lead thorough investigations into accidents, near-miss incidents, and unsafe conditions.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify systemic issues and prevent recurrence.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) in a timely and effective manner.
- Maintain and manage an efficient incident reporting and tracking system.
- Organize and conduct regular mock drills for fire, emergency evacuation, and other critical scenarios.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental) or a relevant field; postgraduate qualification in Safety or Environmental Management is a plus.
- 3–7 years of proven experience in safety roles within a manufacturing or industrial plant environment.
- In-depth knowledge of the Factory Act, Fire Safety norms, and Hazardous Waste Management regulations.
- Experience with HIRA, JSA, RCA, and CAPA processes.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 standards and EHS management systems.
- Strong analytical, communication, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
- Willingness to work in a dynamic, high-pressure industrial setting.
