  • *Summary**:

Blue Falls Manufacturing Ltd. (“BFM”) is currently in search of an experienced, full-time Corporate Safety Officer to join its team; this position is based out of the company’s headquarters in Thorsby, Alberta and reports to the Safety Manager, with a dotted line of responsibility to the VP, Operations.

  • *About the Role**:
  • *DUTIES**:
  • Safety and Safety Administration**
  • Support Managers in ensuring daily Toolbox Meetings are being completed, as well as with any Job Hazard Analyses’ that may be required
  • Support Managers in handling safety compliance concerns; assist with corrective actions
  • Respond to workplace incidents upon occurrence; administer first aid if and when required
  • Investigate workplace incidents to determine root cause and cost; recommend preventative measures to reduce potential for future/repeat occurrences
  • Promptly report medical aid and disabling injuries, property or environmental damage, or any incident of a serious nature to the Safety Manager
  • Ensure incident reports are completed in their entirety & submitted to the BFM Safety Department in a timely manner
  • Monitor the progress of employees on modified work programs
  • Perform/participate in workplace inspections and safety audits
  • Co-Chair Joint Workplace Health and Safety Committee
  • Perform employee and contractor orientations
  • Liaise with industrial occupational hygiene testers and other third-party contractors in support of OHS workplace safety compliance measures
  • Maintain First Aid, PPE
  • Participate in the development/review of company’s OHS polices and procedures
  • Maintain current knowledge of all Federal, Provincial and Municipal Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) legislation
  • Adhere to and monitor compliance with all BFM rules and corporate policies including the company’s OHS policy and relevant legislation
  • Ensure copies of all current legislation, policies, minutes, and workplace inspection and incident investigation results are readily accessible to all employees and are posted in conspicuous places
  • Assist with Safety fleet management duties as assigned
  • Participate in Safety and Production meetings as required
  • Provide operational support to the Production, Warehouse, or Yard teams as needed
  • *- Chemical Control and Containment**
  • Know or become familiar with site specific hazardous products and substances at all company facilities; monitor and/or make recommendations regarding potential risks associated with specific hazardous products and substances
  • Respond to unplanned spills, releases, and/or exposures to chemical/hazardous substances
  • Monitor and supervise planned chemical/hazardous substance releases when required
  • *- Training and Development**
  • Provide forklift and overhead crane and rigging training to employees
  • Maintain issuance of certification(s); monitor expiration, and ensure training is renewed/up to date for all affected employees
  • *COMPUTER PROFICIENCY**:
  • Proficiency with safety compliance and management systems (Workhub, SiteDocs, etc.)
  • *SKILLS/ABILITIES**:
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality; utilize discretion, diplomacy, and fair judgement in all interactions
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish relationships and positive rapport at all levels within the organization
  • Effective verbal communication skills; excellent written communication
  • Customer service; ability to develop and enhance relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills; able to work autonomously or with mínimal supervision
  • Able to take direction and follow defined processes and procedures
  • Capacity to maintain composure and effectiveness during high stress situations
  • Capable of performing work in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment effectively; reprioritizing duties frequently
  • Ability to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
  • *EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS**:
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ safety experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or related
  • Minimum of at least 1 year of work history in production, warehousing and distribution, or other general laboring capacity, within the manufacturing field or closely related industry
  • Training/education in Occupational Health and Safety (Certificate or Diploma)
