Health and Safety Specialist
Sofina Foods CanadaPosition Summary
Reporting to the Vice President, Health and Safety, the H&S Specialist is accountable for the implementation, monitoring and support of the development of Sofina Foods Canada’s H&S management and associated governance. This also includes providing occupational health and safety advice to the plant operations to facilitate compliance with Plant and Sofina H&S requirements, occupational health and safety legislation, guidelines, and standards to support plant’s health and safety program and initiatives.
Key Accountabilities
- Deliver and facilitate Health & Safety sessions and programs at plant sites.
- Develop and implement comprehensive project plans, including task breakdowns and risk assessments.
- Facilitate cross functional learning teams to ensure H&S processes meet the needs of the end users, align with our blueprint, and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Partner with Plant Management to provide guidance and technical support regarding specific issues relative to health & safety programs, initiatives and policies;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, and human resources, to ensure alignment and effective project execution
- Accountable for identifying trends and areas of improvement and communicating with plant management.
- Conduct audits to ensure safe plant operations, facilitating corrective actions with plant management as necessary
- Participate in Company health & safety initiatives (such as strategic meetings, conference calls, audits, special projects, etc.) to ensure site representation, inclusion, and consistency.
- Influence and challenge plant management as required to help improve H&S performance and results.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Degree, Diploma or Certification in Engineering or Occupational Health & Safety program.
- Demonstrated prior experience in delivering H&S programs
- PMP certification an asset
- Strong communication skills
- This role requires travel for approximately 50% of the time, covering both local areas [Edmonton and Calgary – AB] and western provinces [Abbotsford, Port Coquitlam – BC and Wynyard – SK].
