The Safety Manager role at Swinerton is a critical leadership position within the Division, focused on coordinating, implementing, and monitoring corporate safety programs across various project locations. The position carries an annual salary range of $110,000 to $165,000, reflecting the importance and responsibility of this role. The Safety Manager ensures the consistent application of the Swinerton Health and Safety Program and Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), working closely with project teams and management to maintain compliance with occupational safety regulations.

This role requires a proactive leader who can conduct comprehensive safety training, organize pre-job safety planning meetings, and inspect jobsites for environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) compliance with OSHA and EPA standards. The Safety Manager is responsible for developing emergency response plans, arranging first aid training, and investigating accidents with detailed root cause analyses. Coordination with subcontractors to ensure their compliance with EH&S standards is essential, as is acting as a liaison with regulatory agencies to resolve conflicts.

Besides operational safety management, the Safety Manager will perform environmental and health testing and sampling, conduct field audits, and provide up-to-date information to employees on safety requirements and regulatory changes. The role also involves mentoring and leadership responsibilities, requiring strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and the ability to influence safety culture positively across projects. Candidates will need to demonstrate knowledge of NYC-specific construction codes, environmental regulations, and fire safety standards, making this role particularly suited for experienced safety professionals in the New York City area.

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental health, or related field
  • recognized safety certification such as CHST, ASP, or CSP
  • OSHA 500 trainer certification preferred
  • completion of NYC SST 62hr Supervisor Training
  • extensive knowledge of OSHA construction standards
  • familiarity with NYC Construction Codes Chapter 33
  • knowledge of NYC DEP hazmat, sound and dust control regulations
  • knowledge of FDNY fire safety codes and regulations
  • experience as a construction site fire safety manager preferred
  • strong safety evaluation and loss control skills
  • proven ability to analyze accident trends
  • skills in developing and delivering safety training
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • excellent presentation skills
  • strong organizational and leadership capabilities
  • valid driver’s license
