Position Overview

The Sr Safety Manager for Commercial Construction projects will be responsible for supporting the safety program through observation, evaluation, assessment, and training on job sites. This role will involve conducting safety audits, investigations, and ensuring compliance with safety standards across various projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to reports of incidents, accidents, and safety-related concerns on job sites.
  • Conduct accident investigations, including post-accident drug program reviews and other job site-specific issues.
  • Take photographs, videos, and develop sketches/drawings to document incidents or activities.
  • Interview witnesses and relevant parties to gather information on incidents and activities.
  • Develop, write, and present findings, conclusions, and recommendations based on investigations.
  • Propose additional training, procedures, policies, or resources based on investigation outcomes.
  • Perform regular and unscheduled safety inspections on project job sites.
  • Develop and deliver safety training on general and specific safety topics.
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety audits.
  • Provide updates and reports to the senior staff on safety efforts and outcomes.
  • Communicate safety procedures and protocols to field employees.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings, pre-task planning (PTP), and job hazard analysis (JHA).
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of toolbox talks and recommend improvements.
  • Inspect job site PPE and tools to ensure suitability for use and safety compliance.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to current job site safety topics.
  • Assist with budget development, purchases, and procurement as assigned.
  • Take responsibility for specific safety programs, activities, and related tasks.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant experience in safety audits, inspections, job site analysis, or safety program development/presentation. A combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local safety statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances, and codes.
  • Knowledge of job site safety and security practices.
  • Understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements, including OSHA 10 & 30 certifications.
  • Knowledge of trade worker training practices and requirements.
  • Ability to interpret and apply safety regulations and guidelines effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality work.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software applications and specialized safety tools.

Other Requirements

  • Must maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, OSHA 10, OSHA 30, OSHA 500, and OSHA 510.
  • A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and perform tasks such as bending and climbing ladders.
  • Must be flexible with work schedules, including occasional overtime and job site visits outside of traditional hours.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions on job sites.

Language Requirements

  • Must be fluent in English (both written and spoken). Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions on construction job sites.

Mental and Physical Requirements

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense and solve problems involving a few variables.
  • Mathematical Ability: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations with measurements (e.g., inches, feet, yards, pounds, or metric equivalents).
  • Language Ability: Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English. Spanish is a plus.
