The HSE Manager for Connect Group Inc will be responsible for overseeing the ongoing development, administration, and implementation of Connect Group’s occupational safety programs. This will include assessment and implementation of absent programs and the continued oversight and administration of existing HSE programs. This position will include all company departments to ensure existing processes and projects are in compliance with all Federal, Provincial, Local and client regulations. The HSE Manager implements and maintains an environmental health and safety program involving hazard identification evaluation and control, accident/injury prevention, hazardous material/waste management, emergency preparedness, fire/life safety, ergonomics and personnel regulatory compliance in field and fabrication settings.

This opportunity is for a senior experienced individual to join the Nisku based company but must be open to travel as they will have to split their time between the Nisku Office and Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo client sites.

  • *POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**
  • Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental safety programs
  • Lead improvements to the company’s safety program to ensure it meets or exceeds goals by training, developing and motivating employees as to build a behavioral based safety culture
  • Ensure compliance to all environment and OHS related practices and policies (Legislative and internal)
  • Ensure workplace inspections and safety audits are completed effectively and on-time.
  • Responsible for all training and tracking of training related to Health, Environment & Safety.
  • Ensure employee orientation for environmental and OHS related topics.
  • Ensure subcontractor safety orientation and compliance
  • Provide advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions
  • Research occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the work place
  • Advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures
  • Lead and/or participate on projects with operations, management, and other team members
  • Provide direction and management to all occupational safety personnel
  • Coordinate the activities of other occupational safety personnel within one or more divisions and departments
  • Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OH&S) and Regulations, and make recommendations for their implementation, along with Building and Fire Code,etc.
  • Maintenance of COR in Alberta
  • Ensure job site safety compliance is completed through inspections, hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
  • Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs/seminars for Supervisors and employees, with regard to WHMIS, Fall Protection, Orientation, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, industry specific related issues, competency etc.
  • Responsible to ensure prequalifications are completed for Connect Group and subcontractors.
  • Ensure operational execution of all emergency response plans.
  • Report key analytics on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Ensure investigation, root-cause analysis, employee review/retraining and the follow-up of any identified action items for all safety related accidents and incidents.
  • Accountable for the WCB claims management and safe return to work planning, including employee capacity assessments. May assist with the creation of non-work-related return to work plans.
  • *POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**
  • Canadian Safety Certification is a requisite
  • At least 5+ years experience in a Safety management role/supervisory capacity
  • Previous experience in a unionized construction environment is an asset
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting is an asset
  • COR audit certification an asset
  • Shift flexibility is a requirement of this position
  • Demonstrated excellence in relationship building
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to effectively interact with employee
  • Must have ability to remain flexible in a dynamic work environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and user experience with Excel, E-Mail, and Word Documents
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, prioritization and problem-solving skills
