The incumbent will perform multiple functions related to health and safety within Occupational Health & Safety. This position is responsible for providing safety and hygiene guidance to the organization, assessing needs, providing input into the development of programs, and the implementation of strategies to support the organization in achieving its workplace health and safety goals. The Advisor provides general hygiene and safety services and reports to the Manager, Safety and Hygiene We are in search of an individual who has a proven track in exceptional stakeholder management, OHS expertise, is self-directed, self-motivated, and possesses strong problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. Description:
The Advisor is responsible for ensuring consistent application of Health & Safety program throughout the organization; maintaining up to date knowledge of applicable legislation guidelines and best practices; meeting OHS strategic objectives; ensuring that OHS Safety Policy and procedures are continuously reviewed to meet current OHS legislated standards. The incumbent will also develop and maintain internal and external partnerships; work with the OHS team to develop, implement and facilitate OHS training programs for all staff levels; Monitor compliance with Covenant Health OHS program at all sites; Arrange education sessions with Site Leadership and others designated to complete OHS program responsibilities; Gather feedback on equipment and program requirements to discuss with OHS team. Additionally, the Advisor will Identify and respond to site issues to achieve resolution and inform site manager as appropriate; Conduct gap analysis between OHS legislation and organizational compliance; Assist in the development, maintenance and completion of departmental/site tracking systems in order to monitor organizational compliance and provide pertinent health and safety statistics; Provide support and advice to Joint Worksite Health, Safety and Wellness Committees and department safety meetings (as applicable); Work with the sites to implement Respirator Fit testing for staff according to OHS Regulations and Code; Conduct respiratory fit testing, amongst other responsibilities. The ideal candidate for this role would maximize their consultative, stakeholder engagement, effective communication, coaching and facilitation skills. They are adept at creating innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. They will also show a Commitment to the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant Health in the discharge of their duties. Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in a Health-related profession. Relevant post-secondary education related to occupational safety, or occupational health, safety and environment. Three years of experience in OHS program management and strategies.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Good computer skills; Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint and spreadsheet programs; Ability to maintain an ongoing current knowledge of industry best practice; Strong knowledge of regulatory standards in the health care field including a thorough knowledge of Alberta OHS Act, Regulation and Code; Assessment skills – situational; Excellent communication, interpersonal and public relation skills; Problem solving and decision making skills; Ability to work independently; Ability to prioritize work within a fast paced environment; Alberta Driver’s License – Class V.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the health care field. Current Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
