Profile

Reliability, Maintainability & Safety (RM&S) Engineering have the responsibility to apply both theoretical and practical methods to demonstrate the reliability, safety and capability of components, subsystems and systems; and that those systems can perform their required functions without failure for determined periods in specified environments.

The role of the RM&S engineer requires ongoing involvement, starting at the conceptual phase of product design and throughout the product lifecycle. The objective is to demonstrate, through analysis, the suitability of proposed component and system designs to meet intended reliability, safety and maintainability goals as early as possible in the development and throughout their evolution.

The successful candidate will perform analysis, apply reliability and safety engineering principles (FMECAs, FTAs, Risk Analysis and more) for all systems and subsystems on all aircraft types.

Duties include (but are not limited to) creating or revising system safety analysis reports to support conceptual design and design changes, Analysis to support continuing airworthiness safe flight processes (risk assessments), performing analysis to support in-service maintenance and reliability issues, creating or revising MMEL entries and documentation; Responding to airline operators’ MMEL relief or clarification request; Reliability monitoring and providing RM&S Expertise to other engineering disciplines as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the demonstration of compliance with aircraft standards and safety requirements via review and/or preparation of System Safety Analysis certification reports.
  • Complete detailed reliability design development and assessments including functional hazard assessments (FHA), particular risk analysis (PRA), fault tree analysis (FTA), failure modes effects and criticality analysis (FMECA), and common cause analysis.
  • Represent RM&S in Regulator (TCCA, FAA, EASA) meetings, Design and Certification Reviews (when assigned)
  • Support the development of instructions for continued Airworthiness and Master Minimum Equipment List (MMEL).
  • Respond to in-service MMEL relief & clarification requests
  • Support the safety assessment process for in-service aircraft by preparing qualitative and quantitative analysis of service experience using methods such as Weibull Analysis, Monte Carlo simulation and sensitivity analysis.
  • Be responsible for the successful execution of R&M deliverables for new development projects while supporting the in service fleet and new aircraft production.
  • Participate in design reviews, customer meetings, technical and business-related workshops.
  • Champion the performance and development of junior engineers, designers, project managers.
  • Drive continuous improvement and demonstrate exemplary technical leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in Aerospace Reliability & Safety Analysis.

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with Reliability, Safety, and Maintainability design, analysis, and testing concepts.
  • In-depth understanding of the Aircraft and System Safety Assessment (SSA) process.
  • Familiarity with aircraft design and certification processes.
  • Familiarity with aircraft systems (Electrical and Avionics Systems, Flight Controls, Landing Gear systems, etc.) and operational documentation.
  • Knowledge of relevant Part 23 and Part 25 regulations and related industry guidance material, including, but not limited to: FAA AC 23/25.1309-1, SAE ARP5150, ARP5151, ARP4754 and ARP4761.
  • Knowledge of MSG-3 scheduled maintenance program development.
  • Knowledge of MMEL (TP9155E) requirements and utilization methodology in operation.
  • Knowledge of the development assurance processes for aircraft design is an asset
  • Knowledge of safety assessment methodologies related to cyber security is an asset
  • Proficient with software tools such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams), CAFTA, FaultrEASE.
  • You can communicate effectively and confidently in all professional situations.

  • Travel may be required.
