Reports To: Safety Advisor or Safety Manager (functional)
Position Summary
The Safety Officer supports the implementation of the company’s Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) at the site level. This role focuses on day-to-day hazard identification, inspections, worker engagement, and verification of safe work practices. The Safety Officer does not replace supervisory accountability for safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily and scheduled workplace inspections
- Verify hazard assessments, FLHAs, and job safety analyses are completed and followed
- Facilitate site orientations and toolbox talks
- Monitor PPE compliance and safe work practices
- Identify and report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions
- Assist with incident investigations and corrective actions
- Maintain site safety documentation and inspection records
- Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions exist
Support supervisors and workers with safety questions and concern
- Work Hours - Afternoons
- 44 hr. work week
- Mon - Thursday 6am - 3:30 pm 1/2 lunch Break
- Friday 6 am - 2:30 pm
Authority
- Stop unsafe work
- Recommend corrective actions
- Escalate safety issues to supervision or Safety Advisor/Safety Manager
Qualifications
- Safety certificate or equivalent experience -
- CSTS, First Aid/CPR
- H2S Alive (where applicable)
- 1–3 years site safety experience
- CSO certificate
- COR Auditor Certificate with ACSA
Physical Fitness Requirement
This position requires the ability to regularly walk manufacturing floors, climb stairs and ladders, stand for extended periods, and occasionally lift or carry items up to approximately 30 lbs. The role involves working in an active industrial environment, including exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures, while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
