Position Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager, based at the West Virginia plant, is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all environmental, health, and safety programs at Jupiter Coil Coating plants. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. The EHS Manager will implement industrial hygiene programs, conduct risk assessments using quantitative methods, and oversee regulatory reporting and compliance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain OSHA 29 CFR 1910 compliance programs, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hazard Communication (HAZCOM), and Confined Space Entry.
- Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate risks.
- Lead incident investigations using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and develop corrective action plans.
- Oversee Process Safety Management (PSM) for hazardous materials where applicable.
- Develop and maintain emergency response procedures and crisis management plans.
- Oversee the selection, distribution, and maintenance of PPE and uniforms, ensuring proper fit, functionality, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Environmental Compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including EPA, IDEM, Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
- Manage hazardous waste programs, including storage, labeling, transportation, and disposal per RCRA requirements.
- Oversee air emissions monitoring, stack testing, and compliance reporting for Title V Air Permits.
- Implement and maintain stormwater pollution prevention and spill prevention control measures.
- Ensure compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements.
Health & Industrial Hygiene
- Perform exposure assessments for airborne contaminants, noise levels, and ergonomic risks.
- Implement and manage respiratory protection programs, including fit testing and medical evaluations.
- Develop and maintain a hearing conservation program per OSHA 1910.95.
- Utilize gas detection systems and real-time monitoring for confined space entry and hazardous material exposure.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Act as the primary liaison with OSHA, EPA, IDEM, and other regulatory agencies.
- Coordinate uniform and PPE management, ensuring employees have proper protective gear that meets safety standards and operational needs.
- Work closely with Engineering and Maintenance teams to integrate safety into process design.
- Conduct contractor safety orientations and ensure third-party compliance with company EHS policies.
- Develop and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory management.
- Lead safety committees and facilitate employee engagement in safety programs.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments with exposure to noise, chemicals, and heavy machinery.
- Requires frequent walking, standing, and climbing stairs/ladders in an industrial setting.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and respirators when required.
- Availability for on-call support in case of emergencies or incidents.
- Frequent travel is required to both Beech Bottom, WV, and Fairland, IN locations.
Qualifications: Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an EHS role within a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferably in metal processing or coil coating.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA 1910 and 1926, NFPA, ANSI, and EPA regulations.
- Experience conducting hazard analyses, industrial hygiene assessments, and root cause investigations.
- Proficiency in safety management systems (SMS) and compliance tracking software.
- Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) are a plus.
