Pay Range: $100,000 to $150,000

Position Overview

The successful candidate for this position will undertake duties to achieve MHX’s safety objectives and enhance operational performance. They will work with Operations and Executive leadership to assist in the development, implementation, and execution of the company’s safety action plan including oversight of regulatory reporting, training programs, and analysis and mitigation of incidents. The candidate will ensure the safety management system meets the safety needs of the company personnel and that objectives are in alignment with the company’s goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts and develops safety reviews, audits, inspections, and testing in the areas of operational safety, work practices, equipment and safety devices and identifies, reports, and addresses safety issues or hazards found in facilities, operating divisions, work sites, and equipment.
  • Develops, improves, and implements innovative plans, procedures, processes, programs and policies to adequately address system safety issues.
  • Advises Operating Leadership teams and gains concurrence to meet regulatory safety compliance and develop best practices to reduce accidents and incidents.
  • Initiates investigations and, when applicable, determines root cause analyses and corrective action plans
  • Analyzes metrics and incident data to identify trends and potential risks.
  • Makes recommendations to reduce accidents/incidents and monitors effectiveness of mitigating measures implemented.Responsible for obtaining, maintaining, auditing, and improving safety and environmental permitting required by state and federal regulations.
  • Serves as first contact with any safety and compliance governing body for all MHX locations, including but not limited to: Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPAs), fire department, state waterboard, California Air Resources Board (CARB), South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), department of weights and measures, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
  • Manage, engage, and develop team of direct reports.
  • Provide training and compliance resources to company.
  • Demonstrate ability to engage in collaborative relationship building and negotiation.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage conflicts to satisfactory resolution.
  • Demonstrate strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrate influence operating management to implement corporate safety programs.
  • Demonstrate coaching employees management to increase awareness of safety and environmental responsibilities.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Required

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in safety and/or environmental management position
  • Experience in the administration of government mandated reporting of safety and environmental programs
  • Experience with and working knowledge of governmental environmental, health, and safety standards, rules, and regulations for entities such as, but not limited to: EPA, EH&S, DOT, and OSHA
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of safety administration.
  • Proven track record of driving results and continuous improvement in an organization.
  • Ability to make decisions using ethical reasoning and sound judgment.
  • Ability to conduct business with high level of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate ability to provide detailed audit reports, with relevant required preventive and corrective measures.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50-90% of the time for business purposes.
  • Willingness to work varied schedules as work dictates including but not limited to: on-call, overtime, all shifts, 7 days a week, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Competent oral and written communication to all levels of employees within the company.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including data entry, database management, and proficient in Microsoft Office software.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or certification in Industrial Hygiene discipline.
  • Experience in developing high-performance teams.
  • Relevant certifications such as Safety Professional Certificate

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud and the work environment is in an industrial/environmental services corporate office, yard and/or customer plant facility setting.
  • Work is performed in inside an office and warehouses and outside locations in all weather conditions.
  • Work is performed in California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, and future states of expansion.
