Our client, a reputable civil construction contractor operating across complex heavy civil and infrastructure projects in British Columbia, is seeking a Safety Manager to support and further develop their Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs. This role is focused on legislation, program development, and systems improvement, working closely with senior leadership and the internal safety team to strengthen safety culture and ensure compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of the Company Safety and Health Program.
  • Work with Project Teams and Executive Management to ensure compliance with federal and provincial safety legislation.
  • Review, update, and maintain the HSE manual, policies, and site-specific safety documentation.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazards, and prepare required reports and corrective actions.
  • Oversee COR and Forestry SAFE certification requirements, audits, and compliance.
  • Administer and manage the Company Drug and Alcohol Program.
  • Develop and deliver safety training, orientations, and toolbox talks as required.
  • Support injury management, claims oversight, and return-to-work programs.
  • Liaise with WorkSafeBC, regulatory bodies, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
  • Attend pre-construction, progress, and safety meetings as required.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to safety staff, including HSE Coordinators and junior personnel.
  • Support and maintain digital safety systems and reporting tools (Excel, SharePoint, SiteDocs).

Ideal Candidate Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of construction safety experience, preferably in heavy civil or infrastructure.
  • Strong working knowledge of WorkSafeBC legislation, COR requirements, and audit processes.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining safety programs, manuals, and documentation.
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel; experience with SharePoint and SiteDocs is an asset.
  • CRSP designation preferred (or working toward).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and lead safety culture across teams.
